a review for acosf said that cassian’s behavior in the first six chapters is because it’s how he thinks he should treat nesta - - - and it’s emphasized he doesn’t know he’s hurting her, and once he finds out, his behavior completely changes. keep in mind, cassian does not know nesta as much as we all think he does. this is similar to rowan and aelin in hof ! !

four more days until nesta hopefully beats mor’s ass can i get some noise

—

Hey, I was wondering how you were able to read the first six chapters of acosf? Pardon my obliviousness.

— acosf first six chapters spoiler!

THIS CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE FIRST SIX CHAPTERS OF A COURT OF SILVER FLAMES. nesta calling mor a hypocrite is sensational. i also think mor is… projecting her trauma onto nesta. i think there’s a huge issue if a woman that is over five hundred years old is incapable of seeing that nesta, who is barely a child in fae years, is absolutely traumatized. this much is obvious by the narrative in the first six chapters and how nearly anything will have nesta remember the moments that are the most traumatizing to her. for mor to compare nesta to the court of nightmares ( her placing her hand on her abdomen at the end of chapter five or six ) was absolutely disgusting. i think that mor herself has unresolved trauma from what she went through and that bleeds into her perception of nesta. i also dislike her telling cassian that nesta belonged in the court of nightmares, which was an insult, according to cassian. i’m not a fan of morrigan, and i genuinely hope we get to see nesta putting her in her spot. nesta archeron did more than she needed in acowar. if not for her story at the meeting of the high lords, things could have gone differently, and horribly. do not forget she was willing to sacrifice herself for all of prythian as well, and that the inner circle did not care for her, nor show any concern until cassian was going to go with her.

i’m just here to announce i’m waiting on nesta to beat mor’s ass

y’all are upset nessian will take a good chunk of the book without romance, but like … i want y’all to remember nesta archeron is severely depressed, has shown signs of being vaguely suicidal, has ptsd from both viewing the deaths of her parents and sexual assault, and feels severely isolated. if nessian happened within the first few chapters of the book, that just … wouldn’t make sense. think of heir of fire and how celaena took almost the whole book to recover, and had to face almost every single fear and source of pain within her life. even then, no romance was pushed into that book because she had to heal. nesta has gone through so much that romance simply is not an option for her, not that soon. and cassian himself has a no bullshit attitude, as seen with feyre when training. he won’t coddle nesta, contrary to popular opinion. they’re both likely going to spend quite a bit of time arguing with one another ( they both have unhealed wounds ) before they pursue anything romantic.

me realizing that in acosf we’ll see:

  • cassian dealing with his pain. he’s carried the burden of unresolved trauma from his mother’s death his whole life.
  • cassian does not act on his own emotion, not fully. in acowar he never truly seemed to pick nesta, not until the end, not when it was too late and he thought they would die. when nesta bandages his hand he doesn’t seem to really act on it, and while we get these scenes of them exchanging glimpses and looks, cassian just… doesn’t ever fully pursue it.
  • cassian believes he is not worth anything and that is because of his mother’s death.
  • (see: him not pursuing nesta because he does not believe he is worthy, nor is he ever used to acting for himself. even when he went after her in acofas it was because rhysand urged him to do so)
  • his worth is very much uprooted in his glory. there is no better reason for him to constantly stay sparring and busying himself in illyrian affairs to a very unhealthy extent. he believes that if he ensures the safety of every single illyrian and particularly the women, he’ll redeem himself and that his worth will be immeasurable. but he has not ever shaken off the pain that came with being deemed a bastard.
  • cassian has never truly faced the anger inside of him that came from his mother’s death, and if we’re being honest, he’s scared to. with battle and commanding others there is precision, there is order. but with facing your innermost demons you can’t predict what you’ll deal with; it isn’t like battle because you don’t know your opponent.
  • the inner circle knows of his pain, but really, i don’t think cassian has ever allowed them to truly help him with it. mor has an idea of it and rhysand undoubtedly knows, but i don’t think cassian has ever truly been vulnerable in that aspect because he thinks that they do not understand.

acosf will not only touch on nesta’s pain but CASSIAN’S. both have their own scars and wounds, but cassian has never allowed his to be visible, not completely. and i genuinely think it’ll be the first time in his life that he’ll ever be vulnerable.

listen … i’m glad this book is going to be in third person because it’ll essentially be our first look at the acotar world without bias. don’t get me wrong, feyre was a fun character, but her narrative bleeds with bias. i want to look at these characters from a perspective that isn’t leaning one way nor is tainted by past experience.

i just keep thinking of nesta at these events in the night court after she’s faced her ptsd, anxiety, and depression. imagine her learning all these customs that she couldn’t learn before when she was grappling with her mental health, and her making these traditions that she’ll begin to carry out. her first starfall with cassian, where she lingers on the outskirts of the events because she wants to watch rather than take place, and then the awe that overcomes her when she sees the stars fill the sky. her learning illyrian customs as well as those that are seen as standard in velaris, and her just drinking in all this information eagerly because nesta devours knowledge the way a scholar would. i just want to see nesta archeron happy, enveloped in this world that she has learned to accept, and healing with those that she loves by her side. i want her to know that she is not responsible for what has befallen her and her family, and that everything will be okay. i want her to be happy. :’(
