i’m just here to announce i’m waiting on nesta to beat mor’s ass

y’all are upset nessian will take a good chunk of the book without romance, but like … i want y’all to remember nesta archeron is severely depressed, has shown signs of being vaguely suicidal, has ptsd from both viewing the deaths of her parents and sexual assault, and feels severely isolated. if nessian happened within the first few chapters of the book, that just … wouldn’t make sense. think of heir of fire and how celaena took almost the whole book to recover, and had to face almost every single fear and source of pain within her life. even then, no romance was pushed into that book because she had to heal. nesta has gone through so much that romance simply is not an option for her, not that soon. and cassian himself has a no bullshit attitude, as seen with feyre when training. he won’t coddle nesta, contrary to popular opinion. they’re both likely going to spend quite a bit of time arguing with one another ( they both have unhealed wounds ) before they pursue anything romantic.

me realizing that in acosf we’ll see:

  • cassian dealing with his pain. he’s carried the burden of unresolved trauma from his mother’s death his whole life.
  • cassian does not act on his own emotion, not fully. in acowar he never truly seemed to pick nesta, not until the end, not when it was too late and he thought they would die. when nesta bandages his hand he doesn’t seem to really act on it, and while we get these scenes of them exchanging glimpses and looks, cassian just… doesn’t ever fully pursue it.
  • cassian believes he is not worth anything and that is because of his mother’s death.
  • (see: him not pursuing nesta because he does not believe he is worthy, nor is he ever used to acting for himself. even when he went after her in acofas it was because rhysand urged him to do so)
  • his worth is very much uprooted in his glory. there is no better reason for him to constantly stay sparring and busying himself in illyrian affairs to a very unhealthy extent. he believes that if he ensures the safety of every single illyrian and particularly the women, he’ll redeem himself and that his worth will be immeasurable. but he has not ever shaken off the pain that came with being deemed a bastard.
  • cassian has never truly faced the anger inside of him that came from his mother’s death, and if we’re being honest, he’s scared to. with battle and commanding others there is precision, there is order. but with facing your innermost demons you can’t predict what you’ll deal with; it isn’t like battle because you don’t know your opponent.
  • the inner circle knows of his pain, but really, i don’t think cassian has ever allowed them to truly help him with it. mor has an idea of it and rhysand undoubtedly knows, but i don’t think cassian has ever truly been vulnerable in that aspect because he thinks that they do not understand.

acosf will not only touch on nesta’s pain but CASSIAN’S. both have their own scars and wounds, but cassian has never allowed his to be visible, not completely. and i genuinely think it’ll be the first time in his life that he’ll ever be vulnerable.

“i did not want to lose you, nesta archeron,” continues cassian, his voice rough. “i did not want to push you away, to break whatever tentative bond had been between us. i did not know if you felt it too. but when you covered my body with yours… i thought then that you were aware, and that you did not want to lose me. for the first time in five hundred years, i felt as if i were full. it did not matter to me that death had come to collect us, to take us to a realm that we have not seen; all i could think of was that i had found my mate, and she had found me. she had accepted me.”

nessian oneshot: cassian confronts nesta after a brutal fight in the illyrian steppes where it was revealed that cassian withheld knowing the two were mates. the two speak for the first time after that, and nesta accepts the bond.

this is part one.

part two will be released relatively soon.

things this fandom clearly forgets regarding nesta archeron:

  • nesta is only a few years older than feyre? nesta did not willingly spend years tormenting feyre, their level of maturity was relatively the same, and they were both CHILDREN. nesta, unlike feyre, also had no obligation to go hunt. she didn’t make a promise to her mother, and unlike feyre, it seems that her coping mechanism is to shutdown and withdraw, not to take action. she was also a child, as was feyre. both had different mechanisms. their relationship was also not one-sided. feyre has stated multiple times BOTH were rude to one another. nesta was not the only aggressor. also, elain wasn’t completely innocent, it was said that she stole money from feyre’s purse before when they did not have money.
  • nesta did not randomly flip a switch and become a different person in acofas, you can already see her transforming at the end of acowar. you can see it in how she holds the carvings from their father at the end, and how it’s mentioned that she did not visit cassian after the war.
  • nesta relapsing is attributed to her father’s death. she spent her years berating him and ignoring him because to her, he did not help their mother. she believes he did not try, and she was right. then he did not help in the cabin. but when they needed help the most not only did he arrive, but in a ship named after her. she was willing to sacrifice herself for her father. instead she watched him die.
  • she is not selfish: while working through trauma that took feyre a year to navigate, she allowed herself to begin working to aid the fae after MONTHS. nesta went to a meeting with the high fae, the most powerful fae within their island. keep in mind, fae enslaved and tortured human. they killed their neighbor. nesta has every right to be fearful of them. and she still went. she was willing to die in the battle to give them a chance to win. she did far more than anyone expected her to do, and she did it with grace.
  • she does not owe cassian anything. a common argument that’s brought up is that she treats him like shit, etc. cassian is very closely associated to what sent her over the edge, and that is her father’s death. if we’re also taking a deeper look, everything nesta loves gets taken away. her father. her mother. and she saw cassian on death’s door multiple times.
  • nesta archeron will not participate in the blood rite. the blood rite is for warriors that have trained. there is no way she’ll participate, let alone with only months of preparation.
